Deputy Superintendent of Business Services and Operations
ABOUT THE POSITION
The Deputy Superintendent of Business Services and Operations will partner with the Superintendent to develop best K-12 business practices so that San Francisco Unified School District’s (District) 9,000 employees and 50,000 students have what they need to focus on teaching and learning.
The Deputy Superintendent of Business Services and Operations will oversee all departments providing business services, including finance, accounting, budget, payroll, procurement, technology, and county office oversight. As a member of the Superintendent’s Executive Cabinet, and reporting directly to the Superintendent, the Deputy Superintendent of Business Services and Operations is expected to lead with integrity to resolve some of the District’s highest-priority issues, bring it into full compliance with state and federal laws, and improve the effectiveness and efficiency of the District’s business services. ABOUT THE DISTRICT
The District is one of California's largest and most diverse school districts. As a single-district county, the District operates independently from other countywide districts and provides K-12 public education exclusively within San Francisco.
The District’s employees are considered employees of the City and County of San Francisco. All of its non-certificated roles and programming are subject to civil service rules, unless otherwise indicated in the California Education Code or in collective bargaining agreements. The District partners with 16 different bargaining units in shaping labor conditions and the overall student experience at the District.

The District is comprised of 13 early education schools, 72 elementary schools (including 8 K-8 schools), 13 middle schools, and 14 high schools. The District has a General Fund budget of $1.17 billion.
QUALIFICATIONS
The successful candidate will have:
- Bachelor’s degree in business, accounting, or a related field from an accredited college or university; advanced degree preferred
- Five years of professional-level experience leading fiscal or business service operations in a large, urban school district, or other corporate or public sector setting
- Strategic leadership and management experience; in a K-12 public educational setting preferred
SALARY
The District offers a competitive salary of $320,000 annually, commensurate with experience in a similar position. In addition, a comprehensive benefits plan is provided including dental and vision plans, a defined benefit pension plan, disability, life insurance, flexible spending account options, and vacation time.
