In January, California’s Governor will present the State Budget, after ushering in a new Legislature chosen by the people of California in the 2022 General Election. The state’s economy could face strong headwinds leading into fiscal year 2023-24, and residents will look to the Governor for a budget that protects them and the programs and services they value. Amidst an uncertain economy, COVID-19 remains stubbornly persistent. The Governor’s Budget will have to balance addressing the continuing effects of the pandemic while ensuring that the state can absorb what many believe is an impending economic downturn—no small feat for the newly-elected chief executive officer of the world’s fifth largest economy.
The release of the Governor’s Budget proposal begins the process for legislative consideration of the State Budget, but it also provides critical information for the development of school agency budgets. The Governor’s Budget proposal for 2023-24—especially the specifics for K-12 education—will be of vital importance to the state’s education community. An overview of the Governor’s education priorities and an explanation of the underlying details of the proposed Governor’s Budget will once again be presented at the School Services of California Inc.’s (SSC) Governor’s Budget Workshop.
As always, the workshop will focus on the Governor’s major funding and policy proposals, as well as provide critical details for local educational agencies (LEAs) to project their revenues for 2023-24 and the remainder of 2022-23 in accordance with the Administration’s budget recommendations and fiscal assumptions. The workshop will also offer SSC’s insights and advice on what LEAs should do now to prepare for the upcoming year. Attendees will be able to submit questions during the in-person workshops to be answered at the end of each event. We look forward to joining you on this important journey.
Who Should Attend?
