Federal Compliance—How to Stay Out of Trouble

For many of us, federal compliance falls into the “other duties as assigned” area of our jobs, and it is an area that is learned in a trial-by-fire format. Federal compliance requirements are rigorous, tedious, and often very confusing. A lack of compliance can result in significant financial penalties, additional audits, and even a loss of eligibility for future funding.

One-time federal COVID-19 funding added new levels of reporting while local educational agencies continue to adapt to changes in law resulting from the Every Student Succeeds Act (ESSA), particularly with respect to Title I.
