In addition to the In-Person Instruction and Expanded Learning Opportunity Grants, Assembly Bill (AB) 86 expands the biweekly reporting that local educational agencies (LEAs) are required to do in relation to their in-person instructional offerings.
As we reported in January, LEAs currently are required to report to the California Department of Public Health (CDPH) whether they are serving students through in-person instruction. AB 86 significantly expands the required reporting to the CDPH to include additional details such as the following:
- The number of students participating in full-time in-person instruction, hybrid learning, or distance learning, by school site and at the district level
- The number of school employees who work on-site, by school site and at the district level
- The number of students being served in cohorts while the school is closed for in-person instruction and the support and services they are receiving
- For school districts with students participating only in distance learning, the reasons for which in-person instruction is not being offered and the barriers the school district faces in providing in-person instruction
Collection of this data will begin on Monday, March 22, 2021. In the meantime, the California Collaborative for Educational Excellence (CCEE), in partnership with the California County Superintendents Educational Services Association (CCSESA), will be conducting trainings on the updated data collection requirements and the process.
