While California turned the page from 2020 to 2021, educators continue to face challenges originating at both the local and state level. This year’s May Revision was much less earth-shaking than in 2020, but still has significant implications for local educational agencies’ finances and operations in 2021–22 and beyond. But as always, it is not the end of the State Budget story—legislative leaders and the Administration now enter final negotiations to enact the 2021–22 State Budget by July 1, 2021.

The next major fiscal checkpoint for your local agency will be at our annual School Finance Conference, which has been the centerpiece of school agency financial management and business planning for more than 40 years. Traditionally, our School Finance Conference is held in July each year—after the Governor has approved the Legislature’s June 15 State Budget and after budget trailer bills have been acted upon. Again, this year we will present the School Finance Conference as a live webinar.

We at School Services of California Inc. (SSC) always strive to find ways to provide you timely and accurate information as well as thoughtful advice at all times, but especially during our current, rapidly changing environment. With this in mind, we will continue to follow the State Budget deliberations during and after the webinar, keeping you informed through our Fiscal Report articles and videos.

In the meantime, please be sure to hold this date for our School Finance Conference webinar:
Thursday, July 15, 2021 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m.

As with our prior conferences, this year’s program will focus on the newly adopted State Budget, current management issues, and implementation of current initiatives for public education. Additionally, our presentation will discuss forecasts of school funding for future months and years—a critical factor for multiyear projections and, therefore, budget-year decisions.

Attendees will be able to submit questions during the webinar to be answered live at the end of the event. For those unable to make the live event, the webinar will be recorded so that you can view the content at a convenient time for you.
