Advanced Collective Bargaining

Unlike recent years, local educational agencies (LEAs) are not seeing the influx of new monies or historic cost-of-living adjustments. In fact, with declining enrollment, attendance rates decreasing, and the expiration of one-time funds, many LEAs will receive less funding in the 2024-25 school year, yet the demands at the bargaining table for compensation will still be at the forefront of union leadership. Labor associations across the state have seen the effect of organized activity and reaped the benefits of higher demands and coalition bargaining. Rather than the historic raises of the past few years, many LEAs will be planning for reductions in force and the elimination of programs. The LEA’s fiscal story will be essential to successful bargaining and the ability of the parties to achieve a settlement amicably. Oftentimes, when there is little money to bargain, language wars become the barrier to a settlement, or LEAs find themselves agreeing to language or concessions that do not benefit the organization.

School Services of California Inc.’s 2024 Advanced Collective Bargaining webinar offers management negotiators the information, tools, and resources they will need to be successful at the bargaining table amid fiscal risks and uncertainty. This will include an economic update, an overview of practices to organize and develop the management bargaining team, the mechanics of negotiations, and guidance for dealing with labor partners when negotiations become contentious.
